Another reason to leave spanking for grown-ups only

A new study finds that minorities -- including Special Education students -- get paddled the most at school. My brother has Down Syndrome and the thought that any of his teachers would spank him or any of his classmates is abhorrent, as well as completely unreal.

And despite what spanking stories would have you believe, the study shows boys are three times more likely to get paddled than girls. But then, fictional school-girl spankings are so much better than real ones.

Oh school girl is definitely among my top three. Especially as I have A.'s old tie and badge as part of my outfit. :-D

They still used the paddle in my school district in Indiana growing up. As punishment goes it can be such a joke - especially by the time you reach high school. And for someone like me? I made sure to misbehave in Miss X's class several times. And thus began my love affair with Big Wooden Paddles. Whew.

It looks like corporal punishment of children is going out.

My grandmother spanked her children on the bare, often with a martinet (a kind of small whip), somztimes in front of their siblings (in a working-class household, you often did not have much intimacy). My older aunt kept up with the martinet, but, according to my cousin, spanked on the bare only in private.

My mother had given up the martinet but not spanking on the bare. I should say that she seemed to apply it equally to my brothers and myself.

And I don't spank my child (unless you count a single light swat on clothing as spanking).
