Just got off the phone with A. and after an ambitiously austere January, a short-term loan, and a few tips (see bottom of left sidebar) here and there from readers (one in particular saved our ass with a very generous donation -- you know who you are!), A.'s been able to book his ticket back here to Oregon. Basically he either had to return by the end of April or the price was going to go up significantly, leaving us with, potentially, another 8-month separation like last time. But thankfully, he'll be back on April 29th. Only three months apart, per the loose "guidelines" border agents follow (don't get me started on the bizarre arbitrariness of US Visa policy...unless, of course, you happen to be a border agent, in which case, have I ever told you what beautiful eyes you have...how brilliant you are...how brave and strong?).
Seriously. Finding that out made today a lot easier to get through.

Hooray, Natty! I'm so happy for you that he'll be back soon. I remember how hard it was for me to be apart from Red in the beginning. I actually teared up when I read your earlier post about A leaving.
I guess now you'd better worry about not filling up that punishment book too quickly, huh? ;)
YAY! Three months is definitely doable. Hope everything else is going well for you too!
Great news, Natty! Hope you'll figure out a permanent solution to this separation before too very long. Do any immigration lawyers read this blog, perhaps?
Great news, Natty. I was just stopping by to see how you were doing today, worried that you might be down. This is fantastic!
Heya, all --
It IS great news, isn't it? ::smile::
Rose -- I know this sounds silly, but I teared up a bit as I was writing the post at the PB, and especially as I was going back through some of our old conversations and e-mails. And too true about the punishment book. He's watching me (or rather, questioning me over the phone) like a hawk. ::giggle::
Lele -- Yup, it's doable. Though I still have to focus on just today instead of thinking about three whole months.
Indiana -- I hope we'll figure something out too but there are some complicating factors that I prefer not to go into on the blog. And if there is an immigrant lawyer reading, advise away! Though I should note, friends Mija and Pablo are practically immigrant lawyers after their experience getting Pablo here to the States (and indeed, required the services of one) and have given me and A. a lot of helpful advice.
Kass -- so cool to see you here! I am a bit down today, though more because of a really nasty cold/flu. And like I told Lele, I'm basically trying to focus on each day instead of three months. Though it really is fantastic that it's only three months. Finding that out made me cry a little too.
